HIM — финская англоязычная рок-группа, созданная в 1991 году вокалистом Вилле Вало, гитаристом Микко Линдстрёмом и басистом Микко Паананеном. Первоначальное название коллектива было His Infernal Majesty (Его дьявольское Величество), но его заменили аббревиатурой HIM, когда начались обвинения в пропаганде сатанизма. Некоторое непродолжительное время во время гастролей по США и Германии группа использовала названия HER и HIM and HER.

Группа His Infernal Majesty была основана в 1991 году вокалистом Вилле Вало, гитаристом Микко Линдстрёмом и басистом Микко Пааненом. Изначально ансамбль исполнял кавер-версии песен Black Sabbath и Kiss, любимых групп Вало. В первые годы в группе произошли изменения состава на время военной службы ее участников, но трое основателей остаются в ней по сей день.

В середине 90-х Вало начал сочинять собственный материал для группы. Записей первого демо-диска Witches and Other Night Fears не сохранилось. Первым достоверно известным релизом группы был самиздатный мини-альбом This is Only the Beginning, вышедший в 1995 году. На этом диске у группы не было ударника, Вало записывал партии ударных сам. Группа отослала демо на лэйбл BMG и получила контракт на альбом. Сперва был издан демо-альбом 666 Ways to Love: Prologue, а затем, в 1997 дебютный альбом Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666. На все три альбома, в частности, вошла кавер-версия песни Криса Айзека Wicked Game, исполненная группой в рок-обработке. Эта песня и снятый на нее видеоклип принесли группе широкую известность.

С самого начала группа избрала стиль мелодичного рока с текстами о любви и смерти. В имидже заигрывала с тематикой готов, добившись в их среде некоторой популярности, несмотря на жанровые отличия, хотя отношение к ней остается неоднозначным. Название группы вкупе с вызывающим имиджем Вало шокировали публику, и по совету продюсеров начиная со второго альбома группа использовала аббревиатуру HIM вместо полного названия. Сейчас музыканты заявляют, что название His Infernal Majesty больше не имеет отношения к ним.

Второй альбом, Razorblade Romance, вышел в 1999 году и попал на первое место в германских чартах. До него же добрался сингл на песню Join Me in Death, на которую было снято два видеоклипа. Razorblade Romance был также выпущен в США, но у H.I.M. возникли трудности с его распространением, так как в Америке оказалась одноименная группа HiM. Из-за этого некоторое время этот альбом США издавался под заголовком HER. Позднее права на название были выкуплены при посредничестве друга группы, режиссера и известного скейтера Бэма Марджеры. Следующим был выпущен Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights, более поп-ориентированный, однако менее успешный.

Самым известным и популярным альбомом HIM стал вышедший в 2003 году Love Metal. Названием альбома стал самопровозглашенный стиль группы, который они характеризуют как "любовный металл". Альбом успешно продавался не только в Европе, но и в Америке. Синглами вышли песни The Funeral of Hearts, Buried Alive By Love, The Sacrament, видеоклипы напоследние две песни, снятые Бэмом Марджерой, транслировались по MTV и успешно участвовали в его хит-парадах.

H.I.M. стали частью массовой культуры, несколько раз появились на шоу их друга Бэма Марджеры "Viva la Bam". В 2004 году группа была одним из хэдлайнеров фестиваля Download в Донингтоне. В том же году был выпущен сборник хитов группы And Love Said No. Альбом представлял собой сборник лучших песен с 1998 года, но, однако, включал в себя 2 новые композиции: песню "And Love Said No" и кавер версию песни Нила Даймонда "Solitary Man". Режисерером клипов на оба трека опять же выступил Бэм Марджера. В 2005 HIM записали альбом Dark Light, впервые для группы попавший в чарты Billboard.
